Hibiscus
Material Exploration • Prototyping
Hibiscus is a flower used almost every day in Latin communities to make "agua fresca." After being boiled to extract its flavor there is no longer another use for it, becoming waste. The intention was to look at waste from a different perspective and create upcycled products. One of the challenges was to find a bonding material that did not take away the hibiscus beautiful color and texture to capture people's attention into the idea of giving a new value to waste. The materials used for this project were collected from second-hand stores such as shoes and leather jackets and scrap materials.
